I woke up around 02.00 - and when I went out on the balcony I realized that the current temperatures are hovering between +12°C and +13°C. It feels almost like "spring". But I know these special nights in October / November. When a band of fronts are swooping across Scandinavia from West to east at high speed, bringing temporarily very mild air to our lands. It has happened before. It reminds me of "the calm before the storm". Before storms and then very cold airmasses start to move from north to south, bringing a vast, sudden change in temperatures and weather patterns. Including snow.

Autumn is about the fight between warm and cold air. Dependent on which side you are located, you can occasionally get those unusual mild temperatures in the middle of the night. But it is often a very short story...

Tounge of mild air

You can clearly see the tongue of mild air moving from UK towards the North Sea into the southern Regions of Scandinavia at high speed, driving up the temperatures in our region. But... watch out for that cold air ! During the course of the morning and daytime, temperatures in Stockholm will sink from 13°C down to 3°C in the late afternoon and evening - as the colder airmass take hold of our realm.

Bam !

Temporarily

The break-in of cold air will only be temporary. A high pressure area will briefly pass Scandinavia, and once it is east of us, it will once again lead mild air into your territory. The autumn dance between cold and mild airmasses will continue, so to speak.
