This lovely looked the scenery where I live yesterday morning, on my way home from work, seen near Rågsved station around 06:20. With a beautiful blue sky, some flurry cirrus clouds - and wonderfully warm temperatures, which barely fell below 19°C. In some places along the Baltic sea tropical nights were recorded (supported by a warm sea).

It was truly lovely.

Yet, i was well aware that a strong cold front would soon come along and swoop all this away shortly...

And it did.

Summers here in Scandinavia is a strange thing.

On one hand, when it gets really, really warm, the air is filled with so much sunshine, while nature looks almost like in a fairy tale... you would never think of that the very same place, can get endlessly dark, with dull winter months, at times also deep snow and fierce winds. The contrast is so striking between high-season summers - and deep arctic winters.

Well, think of people in Siberia. It must be an even stronger contrast.

Heatwave at the Arctic Circle, July/Aug 2025

Also a bit special was the heat wave in Northern Scandinavia this year. Due to a blocking high pressure area over Western Russia, the inflow of warm air from the east was almost permanent. (It affected even Stockholm and finally gave us real high seasons summer... late, but it finally came after 20 July 2025)

Or during the exceptional heat in North Scandinavia this year, where some station in the extreme north at the Baltic Sea, registered something like 10+ tropical nights, and sometimes temperatures up to 33°C... with a sea water up to 25°C.

It must have felt like a Riviera of the North, with wild, natural sand beaches... strolling around in the bright night, with light clothes. Hopefully without mosquitoes. Those are fierce and can come in swarms in some places of Scandinavia. (That certainly would spoil all summer fun)

Also; the very same places then get fiercely cold weather (December, January, February, March) and the sea can measure ice up to 70 cm as far as the eye can see... all white.

How strange. How odd. How fascinating !!!
