Swedish SMHI writes / quote:
August 2025
Heatwave in the north replaced by early autumn
The month began as July ended, with very warm air in Norrland. Gradually, cooler air affected the country, resulting in many days of cold weather for the season. The exception was a couple of days in the middle of the month with high temperatures above normal. The low-pressure system Floris brought unstable weather with rain and wind. On average, the month saw low precipitation across most of the country. Meteorological autumn had arrived in large parts of Norrland and northern Svealand before the end of the month.
Regarding "Stockholm lack of water"
Stockholm city actually received 73 mm in Aug 2025 compared to the average of 66 mm normal for the month. Despite that - the officials constantly warned/are warning about "a lack of water" in our city... Official sources claim "it is because the Mälaren lake has a too high temperatures - supposedly being the reason why Stockholm too little water ,and we must save it / be careful about it".
Which is utter bullshit ! Just saying.
It is the lack of management combined with bad economics which lie behind the lack of drinking water. Despite the rainfalls as of lately, the warnings never vanished. Which feels funny, when you see that, while when looking out of the window you get plenty of rain, during plenty of days.
Do they fuck with your minds, through cheap "explanations" ?
What is true about the rainfalls over Stockholm
While it is true that in the beginning of the year, it has been very, very dry starting in February 2025. During a period of 5 months, we got too little rain. Especially February-April it was really little. Nature however looked pretty normal when springtime finally took over. I was a bit surprised to be honest. I mean that it did look dry. (there where later a period where some pine trees looked stressed. Those in front of my balcony, are located on a stony hill, which itself stresses trees - while the ones located further down, never showed any signs of yellowing during summer.
Here are the rainfall numbers for Stockholm.
Jan 2025 • 39.7 mm
Feb 2025 • 3.7 mm
Mar 2025 • 3.2 mm
Apr 2025 • 10.7 mm
May 2025 • 18.8 mm (normal 34 mm)
Jun
2025 • 23.8 mm (normal 62 mm)
Jul 2025 • 85.4 mm (normal 62 mm)
Aug 2025 • 73.3 mm (normal 66 mm)

A plenty
Notice that both July and August 2025, gave more rain than normal. So, the water situation should have eased by now.
The claim about "too warm" water temperatures in the Mälaren lake is absolutely and plain stupid, because the lake never went 'hot' in any way. (On the contrary, for most time of summer, the water temperatures were unusual cold) There was simply not long enough heat over Stockholm this summer, to warm the waters to unusual levels. I know plenty of other summer seasons in the water temperatures were a lot warmer. Summer 2025 isn't one of them.
I also noticed (it is claimed) that Sweden get record harvests. (in areas which been drier in Aug 2025)
So, there is that .
