Right now, I really enjoy to do images at (relative) extreme focal length, up to 840 mm, of the sun and the moon. It is challenging, and i really needed some exercises. I felt a little bit rusty in my routines with the bigger lenses, the different settings etc...

Partially I also enjoy it, because I have now found the right way, to get EXACT focus with the Olympus OM-1 camera. Earlier i didn't enlarge the viewfinder, and focused straight of the bat. But noticed that the camera would quite often missfocus. Now i enlarge the viewfinder image by 10x - and focus onto the side of the solar disk - and get almost every time perfect focus. Both on tripod as well hand held.

Albeit when going handheld, i have to be careful with the shutter speed, and preferably take some support from somewhere, in order to steady the picture. (especially when using 840 mm focal length).

The reward are - finally - sharp images. Boy, what a difference !

No more doubts or digital voodoo cheats.

Solar disk - and its dangers

I only do photos when there are thin clouds, or some fog, bringing down the extreme brightness of the sun. Otherwise you damage the sensor if you try to make images without a strong solar or gray filter.
