Of course I can do traditional, simple Astro photography, to a certain extend; with a tripod and longer exposure times aligned with the max exposure time before stars turn into trails / streaks. But i really would LOVE to expand the exposure time.... in order to collect more light form the stars, without that they turn into steaks !!
Hale Bopp
One of the greatest comet in modern times
Is Hale-Bopp which was visible for a whopping half year. I went with the commuter train to the north of Stockholm, going off one station before the end (Märsta, Near Arlanda Airport), called Rosersberg. Around 40 km north of Stockholm City.
I simply went into the fields. In order to make simple photos of the bright Hale-Bopp comet with the Leica M6 camera, and the Fujicolor Super 400 film.
You see the results above. Beautiful in all it's simplicity.
So, of course you can make beautiful Astro image in the most simplistic way, by simply opening the shutter for a couple seconds, and gather the light of stars. But I would love to go beyond the limitation of exposure, by gathering more light than normal (before the stars turn into trails / streaks).
My "demands" are really simplistic. I doubt i will go into deep space object like faint nebluaes and such. I mean i am living in a very bright City which emits lots of light, which affects the threshold of how long you can make exposures without collecting the street lights.
I love to extend my universe a notch photographically...
But i love the thought of extending the exposure times just a little bit, in a reasonably dark sky. Whether it is 30 seconds or even 60 seconds - the starlight will get accumulated vastly, compared to exposure without a star tracker.
You would also say, my demands are really moderate. I don't demand super-super Astro photography. Just a little bit longer exposure times without stars turning into streaks. A very ,very old desire of mine... and I really should take the plunge.
In fact, I could works a couple days extra in October, in order to get the funds for an Astro tracker. It doesn't take much overtime to get there. 1-2 days are already enough, and without affecting my rapid payoff plans for the two Fujinon GFX lenses i recently bought). One lens is already paid off with 1/3rd of the original price. So, i really don't pay much interests, despite the higher interest rate.
