I read some things that bug me about the new 8000 € Leica M EV1 [60 MP], which however has no physical rangefinder. In order to focus manual M lenses (or any other lenses via adapters), you either use focus peaking - or have to enlarge the viewfinder (which apparently is a bit slow).
PS: I hate focus peaking. I often feel it is not precise enough.

It is a sort-of-Leica M camera...
and sort of not. So, what is it, other doesn't have ? A dumb box with sensor for 8000 Euro ?
One advantage at least - and this goes for all digital Leica M cameras is - that the micro-lenses on the sensor are best optimized to house short M lenses with excellent corner and border sharpness as a result. So, corners and borders will be sharp.
Therefore:
• Leica M is best for Leica M lenses. Full stop.
• Second best are the Leica SL cameras whose micro-lenses are partially optimised for Leica M lenses. And third... French fullframe Pixii camera.
• And then, so i have heard, Nikon mirrorless fullframe cameras due to their thin sensor stack.
Here is a comment regarding Nikon cameras
and their sensor stack:
"I was very enthusiastic when I read that Kolari Vision made tear downs of the Z7 (and Z6) showing a sensor thickness of only 1.1mm. I have used Sony a7II with Leica M mount lenses and the thinner sensor stack of the Nikon Z cameras decided me in getting the Z6. However, after getting the Z6 I haven't seen much improvement with my "difficult" range finder lenses compared to the a7II.
Later I found the below article saying that the Kolari figure of 1.1mm "does not include the expoxied-on glass portion of the sensor" which makes the total sensor stack around 2.3mm.
If this is true, which my own tests seem to imply, then the Nikon Z cameras have a sensor stack thickness close to the Sony a7 cameras (which are ranging from 2+ to 3+ mm depending on the sources I have seen) and about twice as thick as (full frame) digital Leica M cameras"
• Another way to go
is to use Kolarivision's thinner sensor glass for example Sony cameras. This gives way better performance with Leica-M lenses (especially wide angle lenses), on e.g. Sony cameras. Since Kolarivision now has an EU store as well - making shipping way easier without any hassle. BUT I couldn't find the sensor-glass replacement service for EU customers. It would be incredible cool to replace the thick sensor glass in my Sony A7s, with a special, exceptional 0.5mm or 0.9 mm thin sensor glass. That would make my little Sony A7s into al most "true" extended Leica M camera, due to its (excellent) high ISO !! The camera has only 12 MP, and therefore "fat pixels", giving truly wonderful quality even at let's say ISO 5000.
Where "Only" 12 MP really never been a problem, what so ever.
Diglloyd speaks:
Here you get lots of information revolving the issue with too thick sensor glass. It is well explained in details and outlines even information from Leica (Peter Krabe, Leica's chief lens designer), albeit he seems a bit coy about the true nature of things...
Very interesting read for those who are into Leica M cameras, or/and Leica-M lenses on other cameras than Leica M
Speaking of Kolarivison EU store...
They also replace Leica M8 faulty shutters (like I've got) with Leica M9 shutters.
Costs somewhere around 620 € incl. shipping - but with rangefinder adjustment around 830 €. Still cheaper than Leica, i am sure. The question is, if it is worth i in my case ?
It used the Leica M8 as an infrared camera
I used my Leica M8 [10 MP] later as a natural Infrared camera back in the days (with IR filter of course). And i absolutely loved it. Especially for cloud photography !!
So, who who knows... many one day i bring her back to life. But first i need to pay off my two Fujifilm GF lenses (55/1.7 and 110/2)

The rest of camera brands
have far too thick glasses and spacings on top of their sensors, which smears the border & corner sharpness and detail definition (you barely see any sharp details). This literally degrades a 6000 € Leica M lens into a cheap 300 € lens, so to speak. Some lenses perform better (normal, and telephoto), others like wideangle lenses do very, very bad (I know that already from the Sony A7s camera). Center sharpness is never an issue. It's the borders and corner details that suck big times.
Nice, but...
To be honest, as much as i would love work with a modern Leica M one day... and in theory the Leica M EV1 sort of fits the bill... but it seems to me that it is far too spartan for the price. The slowness of enlarging the viewfinder frame, seems really off in my book. I am curious, how this will unfold in real life among photographers.
By the way; they also took away the ISO wheel on the body.
What the fuck. Quite sad, to be honest.
So. No. Thanks.
I do Leica M9 with any M-type of lens. Or the Sony A7s - with the "crummy" but absolutely lovely Leica Summicron-M 35/2 "IV" lens from the late 70s.
With the latter combo, i programmed one button to enlarge the viewfinder manually in order to focus precise. Press twice, and it goes 10x. I got used to it... so I really don't mind.
Cost ? 0 €
My Leica experience
is that i use the Leica M9 for normal photography, and the Sony A7s as a low-light Leica due to its astonishing, and very high ISO performance. Especially when you do black & white photography, it is a fantastic tool !
Leica Prices huh !
Gosh. Leica M cameras nowadays cost between $9000 and $10600. Among the Genuine Leica lenses, the prices are equally insane. ON the good side, Voigtländer and some Chinese brands are getting really good in creating Leica M glass, often for a fraction of a Leica price.
I wonder...
Kudos for doing so. Or is it just another plot to destroy the German Industry... because sometimes I get the feeling that nothing is coincidence. Especially now, it appears more and more obvious in so many branches of the German Industry. As if the country is deliberately set for destruction. I can imagine which group is jerking off under the table, by seeing Germany falling into pieces.
But the worst part is, that most of Germany's leading politicians are so screwed up beyond comprehension, by deliberately destroying the country / helping to destroy it. Merz is a war chancellor. Every day, Germany / the German people are heavily exposed to insane war propaganda.
By acts of deception, we shall wage war
I am worried. What is indoctrinated almost daily into the Europeans minds, is rooted in deep evil and deception. Over Government literally make us pay for our own graves and poverty. And we cheer, because our egos are so convinced to be on the "right side". Herein lies the biggest deception which leads to war, death and destruction.
I am also worried about Sweden - our leading politicians who are according the Swedish law are in essence criminals, committed high treason. They should stand trail for the crimes they committed against the Swedish people and the Kingdom of Sweden.
It is just awful.
Follow the money
Also yourself; "Cui bono" ? Call everything in question. Taking nothing forgranted.
