Avraham Burg, former speaker of the Knesset and interim president of Israel, on why Netanyahu can never settle, only kill.
Avraham (Avrum) Burg is an Israeli author, intellectual, and former Speaker of the Knesset, who has combined a career in public leadership with writing, teaching, and dialogue across cultures, and is known for his insightful reflections on Israeli society, Judaism, democracy, and global politics, with a consistent emphasis on ethics and peace.
Highly interesting interview
This was an unusual, and highly interesting interview Tucker Carlson did with Avraham Burg, seeing things from an Israeli/Jewish kind of society thinking perspective. He really gives insight in a nuanced way, and i would almost say he did it with humility, and with good intelligence ! Even if Tucker and Burg were not always on the same page, it was a very good conversation. To even be able to SPEAK with one another - i thought was fantastic ! (Now that's a good start).
It wasn't about to side with anyone, but to illuminate the twisted, and highly divided and complicated situation and opinions that rule the state of Israel, as well Israel's history.
I mean, in order trying to understand nuances and aspects better, you need to hear voices from several perspectives, including their arguments. I also felt that Avraham (Avrum) Burg had a way more nuanced opinion and insight compared to many other (official) people from Israel.
You could tell he is a wise, intelligent man, who was really good in explaining things from his perspective. It isn't an excuse in any way. It is just, if you want to understand - you need to hear all sides, even if you don't agree.
It takes one to start a war.
It takes two, to make peace.
What about the 7 Oct Festival massacer, though ?
The only thing i was puzzled about was; the argument i felt was a quite "off" - was the 7th Oct attack from Hamas. Avrum didn't mention that at all - yet it what was mentioned by many others, even IDF soldiers, how impossible that event actually was. Given that it was the most surveiled border you can imagine. Even the movement of a cat, would trigger alarms. But on that 7th Oct... Nothing of that ocurred. "Hamas simply walked into Israel without any resitance from the Isreali Military / Border patrulls".
The stand-down to the Gaza border military wasn't mention either (Which i would say is a crucial piece of evidence in the whole story). Nort the fact that the Israeli Military later killed the majority of the Israeli people from the Festival near the Gazan border.
Officielly it was all Hamas. In reality, the majority [around 1045] of the 1400 Israelis killed, where shot by the IDF (Israeli Military).
In order to wage a genocide, "the final solution" (Gaza), Israel needed the 7 Oct attacks, the sacrificeof their own people, as an excuse.
Also the fact that the festival near the Gaza border was never meant to be held there in the first place. It was moved (!) from a very distant place to be just a few km outside the Gaza border. A change that has been made only 48 hours before the event !
Why wasn't this mentioned ? Avraham (Burg couldn't been unaware of such crucial differences in offcial narrative vs reality that gradually came forth later.
Anyway, in my opinion a very, very interesting conversation between Tucker and Avraham (Avrum) Burg, a former interim president of Israel.
