It is time...
at the north and northwest horizon, I see the first clouds, which mark the beginning of cold front aimed to traverse the Middle and South of Sweden, with significantly colder airmasses. It will end the sudden, and very warm two days in Sweden. Yesterday the highest (final) temperatures measured in Sweden in Oskarshamn, reached up to a fascinating +28.6°C.
Stockholm had its first summer day this season 2026, with 25.0°C.
Today Gladhammar, also located at the southern East coast, preliminary reported Sweden's highest temperature with +26.4°C.
Here you see
in the latest satellite chart below - how South Sweden is getting cornered by two front, belonging to a low pressure area, which is aimed to cross over very soon; with chillier temperatures and rain (Yet, rain is really needed !!)

Last night
while driving my trains at the Stockholm metro - it felt awesome with the mild air - kind of like SUMMER.
Especially as I left home, it felt unusual mild with 17°C at around 22.00. Even in the morning after work - not a single cloud in the sky - just deep blue sky. Which made me walk from work towards home, a very slow pace through the woods located between Högdalen and Rågsved-Snösätra.
For the first time since Oct 2025, I had my mediumformat camera with me - the Fujifilm GFX 50s II - combined with a short telephoto lens, the Fujinon GF 110mm ƒ2 lens. (It's like a fullframe 85 mm lens)

Finky, Finky...
The Fujifilm GFX 50s II by the way can be finky in terms of autofocus. (it only has contrast based autofocus). The depth of sharpness with the Fujinon GF 110/2 lens - is extremely thin - especially given the relative high 51 MP resolution from the sensor... it is mind-boggling how small the margins actually are.
(meaning; the exact point of sharpness can easy be slightly off / somewhere else). Good care needs to be taken when using a razor sharp 110mm lens, especially on the GFX 50 camera series whose AF is only contrast based)
Even when you stop down (!!!) the depths of sharpness always seems to be thinner than i expect. Is it because the combo is so razor sharp ? Even at ƒ8, you get less depth of sharpness than you would expect...
Well, it is digital mediumformat after all.
I can't imagine how all that would turn out with a 102 MP sensor... (e.g. newer generation Fujifilm GFX cameras like the 100 series)
Then there is also the "issue", that my GFX 50s II is only a camera with contrast based AF. So, it is slower and not always so super exact at every shot. As you go into the finer details, you can sometimes see that the focus is wrong (somewhere else). So, I am usually doing very slow photography with this camera... and careful with AF.
Be aware of surprises (offset focus)
Slow photography, as well making sure to check your images are in focus - are mandatory. (Or by taking 2-3 shots) Especially as soon you use longer lenses. Otherwise you discover missfocused images in the finer details - later when you check them out in detail at the computer. I am already astonished how detailed 50 MP mediumformat sensor is. how small the margins of errors are.
The thought of one day getting a Fujifilm GFX camera with better autofocus contrast + phase AF, which however (unfortunately) comes only with the higher 102 Million pixels sensor.
That however doesn't really excite me.
Not really. I think it is too much over the top. At least in my book. I find those super mega high resolution sensors to be overrated in terms of resolution. (But hey, a camera can be used for many things - and I am sure, there are those who actually needed that type of resolution).
Don't get me wrong, psychologically, it always sounds neat with something like 102 MP. But in real life for me - in practice - 102 MP is way too much. If you want sharpness down the the finest details - oh boy - you got to be like... super precise. No cheating. No sloppy work ! It is already tough with a 51 MP medium format sensor - i realize every time i take the GFX out for a walk and then check the finer details later at my computer.
This morning
it was first time since Oct 2025 i used the Fujifilm GFX mediumformat. I haven't used the GFX system - not even once - during the whole winter.
Instead the Olympus OM-1 was my main work horse (big times !!) Its just so awesome to work with for macro and closeups (via focus bracketing / focus stacking), as well "infinite" longtime exposures á lá "Live Comp". I used it almost every day (night). |
