On its way... from Berlin

The (second hand) Fujifilm GF 500/5.6 OIS lens is already on its way. Coming from Berlin, it shows - and already arriving before the weekend. Cool.

Lower light levels with Old Town Stockholm

That morning i was walking with the long Pentax 645 FA 400mm lens in the old town of Stockholm - the light was a bit on the dull side. The sun had risen but wasn't visible, due to almost overcast weather. Not thick clouds, but enough to bring the light levles down within the more narrow streets of the Old Town. Which also meant, that "running around" with a 400 mm lens - was challenging in terms of trying to get still sharp images.

Since the image stabilization here is sensor based (in-body) - the Pentax 400 mm lens doesn't get fully compensated for slower speeds. Resulting into a slight blur. I mean, the IBIS of the camera certainly helps - but it isn't as effective like when you have a lens-based OIS stabilization.

(That you even get image stabilization working with older, third party lenses - is i think a fantastic feature !)

In the photo above

as trivial as it looks like - was in the original already slightly blurry from camera shake. Again, not visible, since the sensor resolution is so huge... once you scale the image down into my PhotoDiary - it still looks sharp. Which is kind of... interesting.

Shutter speed limits

Taken at a shutter speed of 1/35 sec - I think that is a borderline shutter speed for a 400 mm lens on a Fujifilm GFX camera + Fringer P645-GFX adapter.

Visually (in an overall photo, not looked at 100%), you may be able to stretch it down to 1/15 sec shutter speed if you work really, really hard to absolutely stand still (without any wall to lead against)

Otherwise i would set it at 1/60 sec, if you are careful - where even the finer details are still sharp at 100% magnification.

Taking photos anyway... ;-)

Let's face it; It doesn't keep me from taking images anyway even if i risk a slight camera shake. It isn't like I would stop because I know i risk a blurry image. Albeit, I may not keep all images later...

I do however try to get away with longer shutter speeds *grin* Sometimes it works. More often, it doesn't.

The Photos are - after all - just images for myself. And say it again; I am still experimenting with the limits of my currently longest mediumformat lens; the Pentax 645 FA 400/5.6 ED (IF).

Day after tomorrow, the longest lens will be the Fujinon GF 500/5.6 IOS - and of course I will test it thoroughly ;-)
