This one...

gives me highly ambivalent feelings on a Fujifilm GFX 100s II (via Fringer Smart adapter). On one side, it is small, light and easy to take with me. On the other hand, it has a lot of optical errors such as massive purple fringing in very high contrast situations (Tree leafs against a bright sky), lots of LoCA and Chromatic aberrations. Even when you stop down, you can still see some of it at aperture ƒ6.3

Soft in the closest range

At wide open aperture ƒ4, at minimum focus distance (1.5 meter) it is not really sharp. It is a little bitter at longer distances - and there the 102 MP sensor resolution makes up for it - because as soon you scale the image down - the impression of sharpness increases. Plus gentle AI sharpening / and / or / Photoshop Noise AI can help a lot, too. (it usually does help a lot).

So, most things can be overcome, despite of everything I have listed on the "negative" side.

Same goes for the excessive purple fringing - which i managed to eliminate (to my surprise). I find LoCA to be more difficult to address (blue/red/greenish glow around sharp edges), because after correction it sometimes adds different colors in other places (around the finer details) if you don't watch out.

At minimum distance - wide open aperture - the lens is plain soft with lots a soft purple huge glow around sharp-ish details. I was not impressed at all. I am sure a Canon EF 200/2.8 L does much better in the optical department and error correction.

On the other hand, I paid only 1600 SEK / 140 € for lens, shipping and important + 25% tax. Which is simply a steal for a mediumformat lens.

Sharp at distant objects / landscape

At distant object, it actually renders a lot sharper - and here I am very pleased, actually. I would ultimately call it a good landscape lens. For portraits - meh - not so much. Somehow i just don't get a warm feeling with it. It is the compactness, that makes up for the chilly feelings - because it is really easy to take it with you in a small bag. Or even over your shoulders.

So, it is a good lens if yo know how to correct and enhance things in the post process. Plus it is highly affordable - while the shorter FA 150/2.8 lens - is way more expensive (500-600 €). Plus it has the same annoying optical errors like fringing, LoCA and Chromatc abberations as well.

The manual Pentax 645 A 150/3.5 was in my opinion a lot better corrected (but not perfectly) than the FA 150/2.8 version.

I will NOT use the FA 200/4 was a portrait lens.

So, there is that...

I do have to remind of following which can further affect the performance of an optical lens; there are sample variations in existence of course (like for all lenses, both new and second hand). Some more than others.

See through Black & White

If you think in BLACK & WHITE - then remember: EVERYTHING changes.

Here the Pentax 645 FA 200/4 lens is a very interesting lens ! Optical errors like purple fringing, LoCA and chromatic aberrations are not visible. Suddenly a lens like this, renders images beautifully - and it is really sharp enough in middle and at long distances. Even at portrait length, say 2.5-3 meters, the lens renders pretty sharp.
