Well... the weather for the time being isn't so inspiring. The sky looks almost uniform gray, flat and the light levels are a bit bull. Only a little bit to the west, the sky is almost clear. Unfortunately the residual cloud front over Stockholm, isn't moving much in the west-east direction.
They will likely remain over the city until evening - as the couds move from north to south, continuing to feed the sky with overcast weather, but barely moving eastwards. And so I wonder when I'll go out with the Fujinon GF 500/5.6 OIS lens...
A shower could give me some inspiration by awakening my spirits - how about that ?!

Free sky
You can tell, that most times of my life, i had a relatively good outlook towards the sky - without too many buildings interfering. Especially the place where I am now living - on a little hill. (Snösätrahöjden) which raises above the surrounding landscape in a matter, where I have a great outlook.
Since I love to take images of weather and clouds !!!
When I lived just south of the Globe Arena, in Enskede 1992-2010 - but at the massive Nynäsvägen highway with 100.000 cars passing by every single day (with truly excessive noise levels, and black soot coming though the window cracks). I had a love-hate relationship with that highway during those (almost) 19 years I lived there.
Sure - there was plenty of sky visible. Yet it wasn't really a pretty outlook - kind of funky formed when looking at it from a photographic perspective. And still, it was certainly better than buildings obscuring the sky right in front of your nose. That often happens if you live in the city of Stockholm; in places like Vasastan (where I moved to, when i came to Sweden back in 1984, near Odenplan).
You could barely see any sky at all, even when you lived higher up.
The place where I live now - is fantastic
Despite they built 9 building all around my viewpoint - destroying the lovely broad, green panorama made of just trees and bushes while the Globe Arena 7 km away was fully visible. Now the scenery is replaced by many new buildings. Despite that, I still can see the city far away (and the Globe arena) - because the new building in front of me, as well left and right - do not exceed the horizon.
Albeit nowadays I tend to "cut off" the upper parts of the disturbing houses (because they look weird in a photo). Earlier i let more of the horizon and foreground trees remain visible in my (clouds) photos.
(I meant, earlier i placed the horizon higher inside the image frame - while now I place it all the way down at the very border of the photo). Occasionally I even use Photoshop AI to "troll the house roofs away", when i place the horizon higher up.
Nevertheless - I can still see almost 180 degrees of the sky. It's just that the trees around us, have gotten higher and higher in the past 16 years. I think the major pine tree right in front of our balcony must have grown something like 3-4 meter higher in 16 years.
It gives however nice shade during morning hours - when during summer season the air is hot and the sun oozes light strongly against your eyes, making you feel overheated. After 12.30-13.00 - the sun disappears behind the roof top, giving anew some relief. |
