I woke up from the thunder (that's a first one this season) around 14.00 - and barely awake took the camera and took some photos of the ongoing symphony. Nothing special, other then showing the chaotic dark sky over the Stockholm.

Not really super strong thunderstorms - but surprisingly many spread across entire middle and Southern Sweden, mainly oriented to the east. When I look at the radar, it looks like the popped up everywhere.

So, Europe's most active Thunderstorms today, are located over Sweden, Baltic States and Finland. Sounds... a bit unusual. Yet, it does happen from time to time. After all - July means high season for Thunderstorms. It is the peak month of them all, followed by August.

The rest of the year is ... meh. Sometimes June can be active - but this year it wasn't.

Thunderstorm Abience

2 min thunderstorm abience (at 14.30)

4 min a lot more ACTIVE thunderstorms (at 15.30)

"Bed sheets coming apart"

In fact, now 1 hour later, it starts to rumble anew with more clear thunder sounds, high up in the clouds. Sometimes like bedsheets coming apart... With rain that is rather gentle, more like dropping sounds yet distinct because our zinc shelves we have on the balcony, which makes it all sound louder / more intense than the rain really is.

Uuh... oooh, aaah... BOOM !

A short, loud one. No wait. Many loud ones suddenly !! Boah ! Yes, they are now at 15.25 - renewed, closer and louder. (Making a second recording) Ah, there is a cell coming in / got intensified, pulling over my neighborhood right now. Explaining why the intensity has increased suddenly.

Love it.

Re-activation

Around 15.30 - the thunderstorm activity increased by a lot (when i made the second recordning) with many loud thunders. Yet, a half hour later, it started to ebb out around 16.00 and onwards - which is also visible in the chart below with less lightning strikes registered.

4+ hours of Thunderstorms

Still - it has been going on and off during more than 4 hours. Which isn't very common at all in Stockholm. Usually thing are over after 30-45 minutes, sometimes even less.
