The AF accuracy with the newer Fujifilm GFX 100s II really feels like a blessing. It is simply better, in far more circumstances compared to the Fujifilm GFX 50s II camera. While the latter ain't a slough - but it did missfocus on occasion you normally wouldn't consider to be a problem.

I usually solved that problem by touching the shutter button o the camera several times, just to make sure that the (only) contrast based AF would hit the correct spot. That way, i had fewer out of focus images - but it isn't a 100% solution, even if it increased the accuracy.

When the camera wouldn't focus, i would resolve to manual focus. After all, mediumformat photography has always been for me psychologically, slower photography. You become a much more "precise" photographer, as it is never about being fast. You check your settings extra careful.

Safe and Sound

Now the Fujifilm GFX 100s II whose sensor has additional PDAF - creating a much more reliable acqusition of exact focus - nearly all the time. 1 image out of 100 may can show wrong focus at the most. (General photography, AF-S setting) And again, i touch the shutter button several times before in general slower photography take the shot, in order to make sure things are correct in focus.

The GFX 100s II even manages to focus on cloud details, if the contrast is high enough. The older Fujifilm GFX 50s II wasn't really up for that, or didn't focus correctly most of the time. I would instead focus on distant buildings at infinity, (sometimes then switching the setting to manual afterwards, with locks the focus at infinity) and then frame my images with clouds in it.

So, yes - the GFX 100s II is clearly more reliable. Especially when you do once in a while focus fast on something (aiming and shooting "on-the-fly").

AF booster* setting

Oh, I may have to add a note:I have the AF booster enabled in the camera setting. I did this right away when i got the camera. No clue, how it responds without that setting enabled. (i should read in the manual, what it says about that).

*) Do i loathe that word "booster". I can't think of a word, which has been so framing people's minds. For me, it now mostly stands in a highly negative context. Normally you would think of "booster" as something giving extra energy. Extra something. Extra everything. Yeah, in a way yes but the other way around; People got extra death and cancer, extra degraded immune systems, coping less against diseases in the future because of down-regulation, chaos and wrong up-regulations of the immune-system's pathways, originally meant to protect us by natural design, but instead turned into the opposite due to the mRNA injection's and "boosters" attack on our human genome - the blueprint of our physical existence.

What a sham !

Today, 6 years later - all the criminals involved, still go free.
