Using the Fujinon GF 500/5.6 OIS lens had the strange effect, that i lost my feelings for all the other Fujinon GF lenses i bought earlier. That was a bit unexpected... (but happens from time to time, when you are into one thing, and everything else is pushed into the background).

I love the "lightness"

One thing i really love with the new GF 500/5.6 lens is, that it is relatively light and compact. Normally, when you hear "it is a 500mm lens" - a photographer things of a huge cannon type of lens. Huge, heavy and bulky.

But in relative terms, the Fujifilm GF 500/5.6 is surprizingly "light", and not truly that big. It is big, but not that big, so to speak. Then combined with a abnormal 102 Million pixels - which itself is still to me just incredible. I mean, who the fuck needs 102 million pixels ?! Zooming endlessly into an image down to the finest details.

It is incredible. Not necessary. Yet fascinating.

So, the combination between insane resolution - on top of a supertele photo lens, which you can handle without tripod, and get away with someties really wonderful, interesting to study images.... well, it is fascinating.

Didn't work too well back in 1992

I remember my first telephoto lens, a Russian mirror tele lens; the Maksutov 3M-6A 500/6.3

It was a pain in the ass, because my Canon T90 camera back then had no mirror lock-up feature. Therefore the images on a really big tripod, never got sharp. Not even with two tripods. Which was mildly spoken - a pain in the ass.

The thought back in 1992 to take images with a 500mm lens without tripod... was just unthinkeable.

1992: Used it at night instead (see below)

The only way to use it, was at night with longtime exposure (holding a black paper in front of the lens 2-3 seconds, until the vibrations subsided, and then exposure the Fujifilm Velvia 50 film). I tested that once - on tripod of course - and it went ok - but didn't inspire me to explore it any further. The lens did actually show that it was capable of relatively sharp images.

Now

I am running around with a 500mm lens mounted on a 102 million pixel camera, taking handheld images with it. Just. Like. That.

I mean that is totally absurd crazy !!!

What else is crazy...

Exactly; That adventure is pretty expensive, too. I sometimes roll my eyes when i think about what I just spend in terms of money on "just those two items".

Yeah, too is crazy.

Now Raffe darling... work it off, Biach.

Or like my grandmother used to say; there you've got the shit; What did you pay for the kilo ?
