One of my least used lenses - is in fact a high quality super telephoto zoom. Which rises even further tyo excellent heights, when you add some extra sharpness in Photoshop.

It is really delightful to see the results !

Since I am originally a Canon EF lens mount photographer, my version is an EF-version which i adapt to the Canon EOS R6 via an adapter. Nowadays Sigma doesn't make any lenses for Canon EF nor RF mounts anymore, unfortunately.

Important Note (lens foot):
It should be noted that the Arca-swiss looking lens-foot for this EF-mount lens was NOT Arca Swiss compatible (which i thought was very weird, because it looks like being one). I was never able to lock the whole zoom into position on a tripod. I was lucky that it didn't fell to the ground before i realized that it never was truly locked down. It could easily have slid down and droped to the floor.

I opted later for a replacement lens foot for this specific zoom lens, based on Arca Swiss.

PHOTOSHOP SHARPENING TIPS:
In the Photoshop RAW plug-in, working with your RAW file - go to "Details" which deals with sharpness. Set "Radius" to minimal, but rise the slider for "Sharpen" to very high. Observe how fine details sharpen up, but keep an eye on that it doesn't oversharpen into artifacts and excessive noise again. This works best at very low ISO's - which is more noise tolerant. Then you get excellent sharpness down to micro details
.

At higher ISO, Photoshop Noise AI can help to the rescue, combined with sharpening.

600 mm telephoto images

sharpen up to absolutely superb micro details, making you think you got a de luxe white lens. And that way, it reminds me of how good the Sigma SPORT 60-600 mm ƒ 4.5-6.3 zoom actually is. Plus that i barely used it really being outdoors at various places in Stockholm.

So, that will be one of my future projects - likely after my night shift. Using a larger backpack, since i have to carry everything during my 7 hour work - and then going out somewhere in Stockholm, and working with this zoom more extensively.

2.85 kilo in use weight

Sure - it is a large, bulky and pretty heavy lens. Slightly more than my Canon 200/2 L lens. So, that is a weight that you can feel in your arms when using it a couple of hours.

I think it is my largest lens. During the past years, I have been busy with all kinds of other projects (with all kinds of lenses and cameras). So, somewhere along the way, the Sigma zoom got lost...

Interesting focal length range

It is practically a 10x zoom, ranging from 60 mm to 600mm. The SPORT series has slightly higher specification compared to the CONTEMPORARY series, the latter often with a few couple lens elements. To be able to go down to 60 mm is actually pretty cool. Normally, when you have, let's say a 150-600mm zoom, you can't really take an image of an "overall scene", where you are or what it is you take images of. You would have to switch to a different lens, in order to do that.

Nut this one at least allows you to go down to something like a slightly longer "normal" lens (aka. 60mm focal length). Which is really cool !

Sigma has three groups of lenses:

"Sigma's ART lenses prioritize high optical performance and creative potential, making them ideal for professional photographers.

The SPORT lenses are designed for demanding conditions and fast-moving subjects,

While the CONTEMPORARY lenses offer a balance of performance and portability, suitable for a variety of photography styles"

Atmospheric jittery

When i did the test photo of the Globe Arena in the afternoon, located 7 km from my balcony - it clearly showed the severity of unsettled / warmed up atmosphere, significantly "shimmering", which alters fine details of the Globe Arena, turning them totally blurry / jittery.

Here you see the effect at 100%

Backpack is... packed

I already packed my backpack for tonight's night shift - an when i end up my duty in Högdalen after sunrise in the morning, I'll walk around with that monster zoom, taking photos with it along my road home, in nature and forest located between Högdalen and Snösätra.

It is about time.

Ta-daaaaa !!!
