Low-standing, eclipsed Moon at Dusk

On that evening in the beginning of September 2025, Sal and i went up to the Fagersjötoppen Hill - which is one of the three hills nearby; actually also nearby the Högdalen metro Train depot.

During twilight and great clear weather - except a vaguely visible cloud bank far away in the distance - towards which the already totally eclipsed moon was standing. So, we didn't find the moon at first. None did. Until it only 2 minutes later i took this photo, showed up. Extremely pale, barely visible... but there it was. That reddish, eclipsed moon.

Since I used the Sigma SPORT 60-600mm zoom - it was fantastic to be able to take a photo of Sal sitting on the hill at 60 mm - and then just focusing on the zoom with 600 mm. Without ever having to switch lens on the tripod .

I don't know if twilight was too bright to see the eclipse moon earlier, or if there were the clouds obscuring it. Nevertheless, suddenly it was there low above the horizon...

It was a great night - and we enjoyed it enormously

This year's Moon eclipse (28 Aug 2026)

I will not be so lucky - because the conditions will be even worse; extremely low standing partially eclipsed moon short time before sunrise - and all that just 2-3 degrees above horizon. The smaller brighter part of the moon could help to find the moon. But it would require exceptionally clear conditions, to find that moon standing that low. No i believe it is almost impossible, given how bright the sky already must be at that point.

By the way, at 05.33 early morning - I'll be still driving my train - almost finished for the night. But not early enough to go on an eclipse moon hunt that 28 August 2026.
