The Samyang XP 85/1.2 lens act pretty much like the older Canon EF/FD 85/1.2 L - with the difference that it exhibits better sharpness closer to the border areas when focusing close.
And less LoCA in comparison to the Canon equivalent. And yeah, it holds up even on a Fujifilm GFX 100s II with its larger sensor. Mainly because the motive itself doesn't have any "sharp" areas in the extreme borders. Therefor you never used them, or notice that the Samyang suffers from sharpness in the extreme corners (on a Fuji GFX camera).
Since this lens wasn't made for larger sensors, you see the same stretched bokeh effect in the borders, like you see with Canon EF/FD lenses adapted to a GFX camera. The overall character of the Samyang 85/1.2 bokeh is so far I can see, pretty much the same like the FD/EF Canon 85/1.2 L lenses render.
So.
I love this lens. It is imperfect perfect
Feels a bit heavy, but i like the steady grasp, the very smooth focus, and the long focus throw. It handles very well on a Fujifilm GFX camera. Overall the lens doesn't act like an obstacle. It works more like a tool that works with you.
Which i think is wonderful.
Then again I need to emphasize: Or - just don't forget; on a fullframe Canon camera, the Samyang XP 85 is an absolute top notch lens - all the way down into the extreme corners !
The Moon's shadow is now racing across Earth
The shadow touches earth visibly somewhere around 16.00 UT (18.00 our time), which means in a half hour while i am writing this: Starting at the at the desolate coast of Northern Siberia in Russia - in order to race towards the North pole (albeit not covering it - only up to 89° latitude) - and then going towards Greenland and exit there at the East coast, in order to cover the outermost west coast of Iceland (where the total eclipse has its longest duration of 2 minutes 18 seconds, at a spot located around 75 km out of sea). That is at 17:45 UT, or 19:45 my time here in Stockholm.
Only to race further southwards towards Spain around 18.27 UT / 20.27 my time - where many million people bear witness how daytime suddenly switches to almost night time in the evening, not far away from sunset.
Already at 18:33 UT Est/Southeast of Mallorca, the eclipsed sun happens as the sun crosses the horizon over the endless sea. (Must also be weird to experience, somewhere in the waters south and southwest of Sardinia.
Upper atmosphere totally eclipsed (Sicily)
Then the shadow lifts off the ground, towards Sicily - where a TOTAL ECLIPSE takes place as the sun is BELOW horizon. Which means, that the sun starts to get eclipsed at sunset, but then a half hour later, when she is -7° below horizon, the shadow ot totality covers the upper atmosphere !!!
In theory (since i never seen this effect) it means, that after sunset over Sicily, early twilight Twilight beginns, albeit slightly darker than usual, since the moon covers soon half of the sun (as she sets). Then in the next 30 minutes, it should get unusual fast dark - especially in the moment of totality (in the atmosphere).
I assume this then looks like an unusual dark twilight (possibly total night), around 32-33 min after sunset for a couple of minutes... only then gradually to get lighter again - until real dawn proceeds as usual, and it gets normally dark
Yeah. How weird !
Sicily is in actually in the path of totality - but after sunset !
TIC-TAC.
It is now 17:42
The moon will enter the solar disk over Stockholm at around 19.03, going to MAX "81%" occultation at 19:56 and then gradually leaves the sun disk, until it exists around 20:47 (sunset will be at 20:46)
1 hour 15 minutes Give/or take.
I will likely go to the Rågsved Subway station. At the elevator on top, you have a great view over the entire West and North horizon !! We now have quite a deal of cirrus clouds in the sky, and some small cumulus. The denser cirrus clouds near the horizon MAY PERHAPS diminish the sun light to such a degree that you can see the eclipse without filter (or a weak filter even better).
It depends how much the clouds weaken the light. Most often, the sun is still overpowering - and you can indeed damage your eyes even if the sun is weakened. So, the risk isn't worth it.
But you know how people are...
I will have various filter strengths with me (which also serve as filters for my lenses). |
