Yeah - this from 4 January 2011 I forgot entirely. Serge came extra from Paris to Stockholm in order to watch the eclipse. And we were lucky with the(cold) weather - as it gave way for a mostly free view towards the sun - which stood pretty low above the horizon. (I think this wouldn't be possible today, because the built a house, which would obscure the view) The Solar eclipse was one of the largest solar eclipses over Stockholm in terms of how much the moon covered the sun.

This solar eclipse was officially titled as a 79% occultation. It felt more like 86%

31 May 2003

This solar eclipse showed the skinniest solar cresent I have seen (since i started looking at such things, 1993. It felt like 91% - but officially it was only "81%"

However, as you can see, the solar "cresent" was indeed a lot thinner. The recent solar eclipse on 12 Aug, too, was officially "81%", but the cresent certainly looked thicker... !!

Strange.

Future "slim" Solar Eclipses

The "big" ones over Stockholm, without being total, are in 2039 and 2048. In fact, the Solar Eclipse of 1948 will be STRAIGHT over Stockholm appearing as Ringformed / Annual Solar Eclipse - in which the moon is smaller than the sun - creating a slim ring at Maximum.

I'll be 73, vs 82 years old.

Gosh !
