Winds howling

though the night. The trees feel "thick". You can literally feel their fullness of leafs when the winds pulls though. Giving it an interesting atmosphere; it doesn't sound like a storm or so. It sounds more like a mild wind, yet pronounced present with gusts. Well, the wind sound gets filtered though full leafs of course. It is really an interesting sound image, i must say. Almost as if saying "the calm before the (real) storm".

On top having this summery warmth in the middle of the night, makes it all feel a bit unreal.

Warm air sector

We are inside of a slim warm air sector from a storm cyclone - which very soon will be exchanged though a coldfront and rain in the morning hours. The temperatures are in the far outer suburbs of Stockholm around 10-13°C higher than they were a couple mornings ago, when in Tullinge the temperatures when down to a mere 5°C, but stayed at 13°C in Stockholm inner city.

17-19°C in the middle of the night !

Right now, at 03.00 - almost all station in East Svealand, report temperatures between 17 and 19°C. Which i find fascinating high for being in the middle of the night.

Here a temperature curve from Svanberga, around 80 km NE of Stockholm + the generally much warmer inner city. Yet, also showing you how the temperature and difference around 02:00 in the past 4 nights.

Then you see the sudden difference tonight; dense clouds + a temporary warm airmass, making a big difference in night temperatures.

The current cloudy conditions erase the otherwise typical differences in temperature: Where in far away suburbs and country villages temperatures usually get much colder during clear nights. It does so even as early as in August up here.

It doesn't take much for them to dip down to 0°C soon. Which the inner city disco gals and dudes, as well green-washed folks don't feel much of.

Not yet.

But yeah.

Winter is coming. As it always does.

Really windy now

Boy, some gusts are now really strong... I mean relatively strong. At least i can hear the noise considerably at my balcony, located on a hill 60 m above sea level. Landsort (coastal station) reports wind gusts up to 15 m/sec or 54 km/h

A sailor or pirate would probably call it "just a breeze".

In the mean time, in Catania - Sicily... 43°C.

As of writing, Catania reports temperatures around 30-33°C in the middle of the night. Due to the hot Sirocco winds from Africa the temperature MAX was 43°C With it came an unusual amount of sand particles though the air.

Fertilizing the soil over Italy

Did you know that the incoming sand from the Sahara desert acts like a soil fertilizer over Sicily and Italy ? The sand is clearly visible in the satellite chart below.
