It is happening !

So.... the VALOI Easy120 film scanning device is on its way from Finland.

It allows me to make digital images with help of a camera (like Fujifilm GFX + macro lens) from 120 film mediumformat film negatives - in an easy, convenient way, without the risk of stray light from outside. Without having to go into a darkroom (= our bedroom) in order to make high quality digital images from film negatives. Of which i have still several the thousands to scan.

Kamerastore.com sent out this new device faster than I had anticipated. Originally they said something about mid-January, i believe. I wasn't even on of the first to order it, because i got so preoccupied with that Ukrainian Mamiya RZB to GFX adapter. Until i finally and luckily snapped out of it - putting my money into the VALOI East120 instead. Something i know i will be using a lot, given the many negatives that are still not scanned. Ordering it during the Christmas holidays.

More expensive than VALOI 135

Naturally the device is approximately 2.5x more expensive than the VALOI Easy135 for 35mm film negatives. This far, I have only ordered the basic set up, plus a 6x6 mask frame. In the package is also a 6x9 cm frame. (They should by default have added the 6x7 frame, instead of 6x9 - which is a bit... uhm... fiddly at times).

Most people will likely have 6x6 negatives, rather then 6x9 negatives.

There is also an option for 35mm panorama (ca. 24x90mm), think "Hasselblad XPan" negatives. But that I can scan those with the VALOI Easy135 - and have been doing it aplenty - by simply stitching two negative half's together - creating a very high resolution XPan digital image. (The Hasselblad XPan negative format is something like 24x65 mm in size)

I prefer to keep the VALOI 135 and 120 separately. Either i aim during a session scanning 35mm negatives, or just mediumformat.

Going from VALOI 135 to 120

Given how absolutely fantastic the VALOI 135 works in practical use - scanning literally several thousands negatives one year ago... with very high quality ! I was delighted to hear, that the VALOI team / Kamerastore.com would develop a similar device, but for mediumformat film !

I am not sure when i will start scanning- given that i am all into Studio Flash photography at the moment *LOL* - which i enjoy tremendously. Once i start scanning, it will occupy all my focus on film negative scanning, instead. Kind of leading my energy away from what I now enjoy the most; working in the photo studio.
