(Part 1)
Why haven't I been out earlier ?!
Surprisingly, i haven't been using the rotating Vertex method outdoors for a very long time (autumn 2023). Meaning; using a rotating FotodioX adapter, connected to a Fujifilm GFX 50s II (50 MP) camera together with Pentax 6x7 lenses. You take 4 images, while rotating the camera 90 degrees each time.
The images you then stitch together at home, giving you (often) 150 MP images, utilizing the entire image circle of those much larger Pentax 6x7 lenses. In practice you get an equivalent of 7x7 cm sensor images (instead of the smaller Fujifilm GFX sensor; aka 44x33mm).
The Vertex method basically gives you images, as if you had a camera with a 7x7 cm sensor - and therefore utilizing the lenses as they where originally designed for (= the original 6x7 negative film format).
21 MP Main Diary Photo
Albeit i made a exception today in the main photo above; it is 4550x4500 pixel large = 20.7 MP. You see a lot more details when you zoom in, compared to my normal Diary image on each page.
The details when zoomed in look fine. That's because I usually (but not always) sharpen it a little bit. SO, i am not complaining about the results AFTER post processing the Stitched Vertex images. But I also realize, that each final image, needs a lot of care taken; many corrections need to be performed.
I did feel a bit disgruntled, though.
Doing images in this style, at home - is one thing. And you get amazing results. But in real life, outdoors in daylight - reality kind of looks a it different. I was a bit startled over the reduced quality - albeit, what is the definition of "reduced quality" ? Also it depends on what you are comparing it with ?
Superior will always be, to use the Fujifilm GFX camera system with NATIVE Fujinon GF lenses. Punkt. Hard stop. That is the ultimate quality you can get, in which sensor and lenses are working in perfect harmony, with maximum optical quality. Almost nothing comes close, nor does anything else provide the same (relative) compactness.
One thing i should add; i had forgotten my glasses when i head out very early in the morning, into the city of Stockholm. It was rainy (drizzle), overcast and kind of boring weather. I still had my contact lenses on me, so i wasn't totally handicapped regarding setting sharpness on the LCD screen. But I didn't have that exact feeling of sharpness when using the camera screen, trying to focus...
