I can't say for sure - but cut flowers have never been on my mind, nor in my life that much when i think back. During poorer times i often thought it was a bit wasted money, to buy relative expensive cut flowers, and then they die after less than a week; therefore I didn't care.
Lately however, I have enjoyed Tulips enormously. A sea of color splashes standing at the kitchen table. It does brighten the day. And from a photo graphical point of view, they are actually pretty interesting during the process of fading, drying and changing their appearance a lot. Where the ugly is often very interesting from a Macro perspective. As well the shapes those skinny things then form, can be very interesting.
I guess it is that, ever since I bought Tulips for Sal's birthday in mid January, where I followed them almost daily with the camera + macro lens during the following 30 days. And that fueled my interest in tulips.
Winter, (cut) Flowers & Photography
Other flowers you can buy at the store are of course pretty, but not always that often really interesting in macro mode. At least for me their aren't. Perhaps because i lack sufficient interest and creativity ? I don't know. They just didn't make me tick.
Usually the selection of flowers to buy during wintertime in a normal food store [Coop, ICA Nära] are rather limited to the basic/typical selection of flowers. Which could explain my disinterest. I also avoid buying flowers when it is simply too cold outside. Me not knowing how they tolerate in freezing temperatures - without dying directly day after.
Also; i don't go to special flower stores during winter in order to hunt for the right flowers, to do Macro or Close-up photography... Seems a bit too ambitious and expensive for my taste *LOL*
But who knows, I may see flowers with a more open mind from now on ?
I just wished, i would be more into outdoor flower photography. Which I am not truly. Yet my eyes are on them all the time; during my walk on my way home from work. I sense and observe them every morning, see their growth, the blossoming, and the changes.
Rose ? Roses ?! Well, well....
Sure; Roses are really lovely; in nature "as they are", and even in a vase. We have a bunch of rose bushes in the front of the house complex - with really interesting color; a sort of smoked rosé but not really rosé. Incredible beautiful. They don't last long - but look stunning. I like simply more in nature.
But for photography in a vase at home... meh, my mind turns boring, and i don't really know what to do with them photographically. *LOL*
I guess it is also a mood thing; sometimes you've got that feeling to do creative stuff with flowers - and sometimes, you just don't. Lighter and brighter flowers are fun, because dark flowers tend to get a bit sooty. Or i have to work harder to get them interesting. Again, it is all a matter of creativity, endurance, flexibility - mood of course - and EFFORT.
Effort is something I am changeable. I have periods where i put really a lot of effort in what I do. And then I trail off and go into long periods, where I don't follow up a theme or themes i had been working on.
Example: I was so into printing last autumn. Now - I almost print nothing at all.
Strange.
Or maybe not. I mean you've got to have a reason, a goal - to print beautiful photography on paper. But I had no reasons lately. And I dislike to throw images after people. (I do like to share and give - but i dislike to "throw them after people").
That feeling kills everything off.
