It is kind of fun...
Albeit there are better lenses for sure - but the manual work with this lens is something I like. The qurkiness. THat perfection isn't given freely away without effort, so to speak. I mean when I use the huge Mamiya Sekor Z lenses in the close range... I too, had to work manually a lot, to get things right.
Only that this lens, is in direct comparison a lot smaller, and a lot less bulky - and doesn'trequire any rail. So, in a way it is fun, because I have to put effort in it, still.
And even if it makes dark corners when ging into the extreme of 2x macro - those corners can be taken away. I am willing to compromize, you know. Especially given that the price of 390 € for a "mediumformat" macro lens... is a steal. There is nothing that is cheap when you deal with medium format systems.
I do love this lens for what it is; a fun experimental lens, perfect for close-ups and even down to 1:1 macro, it is rewards. And when used correctly within its relative limits - you get really wonderful images. And it IS FUN to work a little bit extra !!
Beautiful bokeh !
Astonishing every time, is the beautiful bokeh.
Very, very pleasant. Even stopped down a bit, it remains very pleasant. Which is really useful for more emotional close-ups. I really like the character. It goes against the otherwise technically perfect, ultra-sharp lenses... A very pleasant option and compliment i have in terms of lens character for Close-ups and moderate Macro.
What is there not to like !
Plus that the colors from a Fujifilm GFX mediumformat camera, do not break up as easily compared to a much smaller Micro Four Thirds image sensor (Olympus OM-1, EM1X, etc) when you post process a bit too much (contrast, etc).
