Not so bad after all, lately.
The temperatures over the past week have been much more normal for this time of year. As a result, the May 2025 deficit is smaller than originally thought. The total average lies still slightly on the cool side, but not as cold as the mainstream media in Sweden wrote a week ago, calling it the "coldest May in 20 years." It was that, but for the first 3 weeks. Then it got warmer.
Nevertheless - I can only speak to the temperature in Stockholm City, which is the warmest part of the city. IN other parts of Sweden the situation might have been different (I don't know).
In the outer and far outer suburbs, temperatures have been lower, especially at night. Just two nights ago, for example, Tullinge reported a mere +1.1°C, although yesterday it was a "whopping" 11.5°C.
Overall, I would say that temperatures have stabilized and the weather has become much friendlier and sunnier. It actually feels like summer.
SMHI didn't take away the graphical charts...
Speaking of things might been different in other parts of the country... - i found the graphical (temperature & precipitation) charts at SMHI again.
Originally i thought they had abandoned these. No, they just moved them somewhere else, not so easily accessible if you don't know where to look. But there are there. These charts are good, because they show you right away anywhere in Sweden, where it is too dry, too wet, warmer or colder than normal.
Cooler again ?!
Possibly, maybe. Although it is warmer now and the nights are more pleasant, the outlook looks unstable. Similar to the weather that was throughout May 2025. The lack of a stationary high-pressure area means that weather fronts and low-pressure areas easily sweep across our region, leading to mixed weather. Sometimes it's warm and sunny, and other times it's overcast and rainy. This seems to continue for the next two weeks.

There it is... again
The hesitancy. When you look at the predicted (modeled) temperature curve for Stockholm in the next 14 days - compared to the normal Max and normal min (i drew into the chart) - then you see that it is hesitant to rise to summer temperatures (25°C or more). There seem to be no steady high pressure area in the outlook. Therefore the temperatures will often not exceed 20°C.

The nights
in the city will be more like normal summer nights (above 10°) for most of the time, according to this GFS prognosis. It reminds me of summer nights in the 80s which were generally cooler, and the average normal minimum also a bit lower (but above 10°C during the three summer months).
The cold summer of 1987
In fact; the temperatures so far (since May) remind me more of the summers in the 80s - but not as cold as the dreadful summer 1987. which was one of the coolest summers in Stockholm in the 20th Century. On top it was also one of the rainiest, too.
Yeah. I remember that. Especially that at least nature was extra lush (or so it seemed), which made up a little bit for those poor summer of 1987.
See for yourself ... Not fun, really.
If people think that this kind of "cooler" weather is better for humanity, then i seriously doubt that, given the problems that agriculture get with a much colder weather. I wouldn't want to trade. It would be insanity. Especially up here in Scandinavia.
In 1986, not such a great summer, but at least at times better compared to summer 1987. Yet, autumn was frikkin cold for a long time, starting already in the beginning of August 1986.

Yeah. 1987
What a frikking year. Lots of rain. And poor warm days. In fact, only one day close to 30°C, and another ONE above 25°C. The rest below.
Not fun. Really, like a lost summer up here in the realm where summers are shorter, and the winter part long. Which by the way was especially in 1987 extremely cold in January and March 1987. I started my education as a conductor at the Saltsjöbanan Railway - and we had tremendous amounts of snow, both those months. Especially in March the setback with more snow was huge. (Not visible in the chart, which goes form April to September only)
1988 - changing to warmer
After rather normal or cold summers in the mid 80s, things finally started to change from 1988 and onwards (with a setback in 1993 as well [June] 1991).
As you see here, summer 1988 was suddenly more... summer (in relative terms). Also autumn turned into a far milder, at times even warm version this time ! Not so many summerdays above 25°C were registered during 1988, but we got a few more compared to the two lonely 25°C days in 1987.

People would be surprised
If the long-term weather would change back into what used to be summers in Sweden; far cooler - with far fewer warm summer days 25°C. It would likely be felt like a chock or disappointment. Because people largely do not remember weather or climate.
Sure there were warm summers. Like the fantastic one in 1975 comes to mind. There were always times with warm summers. And there were times, when summer barely was summer temperature wise.
I am not so sure if i wish such times back.
Personally, I sincerely do not !
