I happen to find my "light painting box", with tools from the early 2010s - in which I had additional Maglite torches. Like 5 of them - so now i have a whopping 7 torches. Many more than I have bargained for *LOL* It was only a few seeks ago i bought 2 torches, because I couldn't find the old ones... Now i have more than plenty...
Oh well.
Luckily I also found the special chain from the "Home of Poi" (New Zealand), which is a very solid steel string where you can toss around light tools. For example making light orbs "hovering" in photos, like glowing entities. Nice that I found that one again.
"Home of Poi" has interesting light panting tools - but they were and now even more so, are very expensive, I have noticed. So, I don't order from them anymore - it is just too much - and for light painting photography, you can use very well cheaper tools.
More light tools:
I have found, in the little LED light which act like miniature "studio lights" (for Macro stuff). Those too can be used. Well anything that has lights and glows, shines or makes beams. Then of course I have an endless supply of micro light chains on top of everything *LOL* So, over the past 15 years, it has become quite the selection of light painting tools.
Pro's and Con's
However, I still have trouble to "predict" the effects in the final images. It all acts like a surprise - more often than not. Even if i can see the effects growing on the Camera's LCD screen. It still looks different in reality. Luckily I have far more options to correct images in Photoshop today, as you can separate a main subjects from the background, and work on each of them separately. Also AI helps to iron our smaller details, that don't belong in the photo. Sometimes I come into the picture with the light source i am painting with. That can be erased in a way that looks very convincing. That is perhaps the best feature of AI in Photoshop.
Also: When there are burned out highlights - you can make a selection of the area and call for AI. Then you get variations, which are not burned out - while at the same time smoothly connections to the other elements in the photo. So, I find AI very helpful in ironing out disturbing, burned out highlights.
I also get those white areas in smaller sections of clouds images. Then it is a splendid way to correct those.
