Kitchen
I wanted to play a little bit with light painting on dirty dishes in the kitchen... while the light outside was already moderate bright (albeit dull since it is Nordic overcast winter sky. In other words, dull gray). Yet, with the Olympus OM-1 setting on "Live Comp", together with stopping the aperture down to ƒ11 (and the part highlight exposure set on 1/2 seconds) but with open shutter like 3 minutes... I was still able to paint with light, despite that it wasn't totally dark
It's really strange to be able to paint with light - albeit the surrounding isn't dark. I always used to use the "B" longtime exposure function - but in as dark environment as possible in order to be able to paint with light - without overexposing the general / overall image as such.
So, it is really different to work with "Live Comp".
Really clumsy light paintings
I feel incredibly clumsy. Like somebody who got a big fat brush, instead of a nuanced, fine tool. So, everything often turned out... bold, colorful and ... well... clumsy looking. I am sure it is partially because of the "Live Comp" setting and the way it works with highlight exposure.
Also my light painting tools seem to be too clumsy for finer (light) strokes... Unrefined. Crude. When I use the "Ants on a Melon" Critter torch - the colors often turn out quite differently. "White" certainly isn't white at all - but leans towards cold blue with some pink in it. (which partially is also because of the color setting in the camera, filtering the warm light into something colder).
So, called white LED's often turn out with a bluish or pinkish color cast. They are rarely neutral in their colors - unless it is a very exclusive light source with high CRI (color accuracy). Which I am sure, the Critter Torch certainly isn't made from.
Again: Trial an Error (& Photoshop corrections)
So, it is still all about Trial and Error, making me like fumbling "in the dark" - turning out highly unpredictable. Which is good and bad. You get plenty of surprises - and quite often the image turns out far less good than i first thought. So, i continue to play and play and play...
Luckily, i am not on a paid mission *LOL*So, it doesn't really matter if the image is a bit or two "off".
Classic Princess Leia got... canceled
Yeah, the seller canceled my order out of the blue. So, no classic Princess Leia (1977 Star Wars movie). Pity, because that model is perhaps the one that looks most like her - plus that most people remember her best from the first Star Wars movie. There are other versions offered as figures - but i don't really like that as much. Some of them, her face doesn't look recognizable.
So, she has to wait until further notice. I might get her in one or the other way. Likely overpriced - but let's face it. She is a CLASSIC ICON from the 1977 movie.
